BLIMP OVER EUROPE 1a
even the dumbest fan knows that captain beefheart and the magic band 'spent four days in holland' at the end of their second visit to europe in 1968 (john platt - liner notes to 'i may be hungry but i sure ain't weird'). but although i'm completely dutch i too knew no further details than that they had played in the newly opened 'paradiso' in amsterdam; which was the only poor fact gerry pratt could mention in his fanzine special BLIMP OVER EUROPE #1 european tours 1968 to 1973 about the mysterious visit to holland. but now sjef huurdeman (heel erg bedankt!) has sent me a photocopy of a news item from the dutch music paper HITWEEK vol.3 #37 about that happening... wow. it goes:U.S.A. GROUP CAPTAIN BEEFHEART AND HIS MAGIC BAND IS COMING TO PARADISO AND FANTASIO
(edited outtake)
so finally all got settled with the labour permit for CAPTAIN BEEFHEART. coming weekend he performs at several places:the PICTURE placed to the news item is a photo from their saturday 4 may 1968 performance at the ROME POP FESTIVAL, and as far as i know actually the only picture ever published of that concert - so that's a SENSATION too!
friday 31 may 1968 PARADISO, AMSTERDAM
friday 31 may 1968 FANTASIO, AMSTERDAM
saturday 1 june 1968 CANADA CLUB, ALKMAAR (where also the teevee footage for 'rood-wit-blauw' will be made).
moreover there will be given another concert on saturday 1 june in the beat-cellar 'lijn 3' (in amsterdam - t.t.).
