OLD FART WANTED TO PLAY...
but he needed a band capable of performing his musical paintings ánd which didn't mind the low pay and his whimsical behaviour on and off stage. the second assignment was to find a proper place for a show. and then, a good performance needed an audience too...
ways to draw people to the concert were * advertisements * announcements * posters * handbills and * previews. in order to keep the happenings well-organized there had to be * tickets and occasionally even * program booklets * press cards and * back stage passes. some gigs appeared to be interesting subjects for * broadcasts * photos and * reviews and / or have been recorded on * audio tapes sometimes resulting in * (bootleg) albums, while other facts about the concerts have been saved in * interviews * stories * signatures and * memories....

TIMELINE
long ago, when i had cybered the first 'complete' concert overview, another beefheartian, detlef jürgens, thought those lists were a good starting point for a website dealing exclusively with that part of don van vliet's career, and off he went! the 'live performances and rehearsals' exploded into a gigantic database of facts and eventually detlef's web museum became a detailed story in the form of a timeline.
unfortunately, after many glorious years detlef was forced to abandon the project for lack of time - which was a terrible loss to mankind!
but there are good reasons to continue the research:
* john 'drumbo' french and other band members remembered a lot of the past in the book 'through the eyes of magic'
* every day new information and useful details bubble up in cyber space
however the 'timeline' contained a lot of stuffworth to be saved for ever
thus you might come across the remark: provided by detlef jürgens.
