SHOW narration ENGLISH
it seems that john peel, the famous english disc jockey and long time dedicated promoter of captain beefheart, had a black out at the time the magic band played its first ever gig: at the april 2003 all tomorrow's parties festival in - notably - his homeland. or maybe someone simply had forgotten to send him a copy of the recording of the february rehearsals (which eventually would be mixed to the 'back to the front' album).... The All Tomorrow's Parties gig was broadcast on the John Peel show on BBC Radio 1 earlier this week (tuesday 29 april - t.t.) - and [...] John admitted that he didn't make the effort to see the Magic Band in the UK recently because he assumed that it was just a tribute band cashing in. But after he had played the recording he was overcome with enthusiasm and emotion - he could hardly continue the radio show!anyway, perhaps you remember what happened afterwards:
simon glass - alt.fan.capt-beefheart - 020503:
fortunately john is a tough man, and he managed to beat his crisis. and although it must have brought him many a sleepless night, more than a year after his slip he is able to make good for his blunder. this time he sure will be there when the magic band will perform - in his own studio! very clever of you, john!
now, the guy may be a veteran from the sixties, but that doesn't mean he's living in the past. so, since a couple of years his RADIO shows wave through the INTERNET too. good chance to listen along for everybody who won't be admitted to the studio recording (which is almost everyone).
let's just keep an eye - and an ear or two - on JOHN PEEL and we'll find out all...
