theme: ROCK
as beefheart created a category of its own in pop music, you can put any label on him you want. yes, a 'master of rock' fits him too - so he's present on this almost-no-budget boxset with a lot of 'hard' and 'heavy' which in fact should be called '49½ rock giants'. why? because the original 15 minutes track MIRROR MAN from the same-titled album is reduced to a shameful 6.30 minutes version! or is that just because they didn't get enough time to round off this compilation? re-released in spring 1999 in an other o-box as 'invasion of the rock zombies'.

in fact this is a re-release of an earlier compilation under a new title and in a new o-box, as becomes clear when the ceedees are taken out of the holder: it are the three volumes of 'masters of rock - 50 rock giants'! so it contains the original fifteen minutes track MIRROR MAN from the same-titled album reduced to a shameful 6.30 minutes version! the trays and the notes are exact the same as the original release, the white lettering on the black discs just doesn't mention the release data. the other acts:

after being disguised as the 'invasion of the rock zombies' this very same compilation went through another face-lift. and this time it was a total bódy-lift: the outfit of the discs and the inserts was changed in similarity to the front. but the music still is exactly the same, so again the box set closes off with a 6.30 minutes short version of MIRROR MAN. by the way: in case you're a die-hard collector who can't find this cheap 3ceedee collection (cheap because it only costs nine and a half euro) you could try to contact the manufacturers themselves as dressed to kill seems to have made its entrance on the web...
