captain beefheart - cover versions - doctor nerve- cd 'every screaming ear' (1997)

started in the late 80's in new york, this eight-piece collective of instrumentalists meanwhile owns a large home page with details about themselves and their music. for instance their latest release which this 'avant-garde rock ensemble' considers to be 'an overview and summation of the group's work to date, including compositions, deconstructions and improvisations'. so in short: some outtakes. the nice chaotic mixture of rock, jazz and nonsense doesn't really get boring; and as if they know you can get tired of listening to mere instrumentals, they finish the album with a real song - entitled WHEN IT BLOWS ITS STACKS (from the spotlight kid) - on which they were helped out by guys that had shown how to play beefheart cover versions before: the MERIDIAN ARTS ENSEMBLE! that brass quintet disposed a singer, and although they fall in too rude, in the end the joined groups come to a surprising close.... which all happened in a studio in new york in june 1996, by the way.

the record is released by cuneiform records, p.o. box 8427, silver spring, md 20907, usa; fax ++ 301 589 1819; e-mail cuneiway@aol.com or if you want to try and find it in europe: orkhestra international, 25 impasse barracan, 13890 mouriès, france; tel ++ 490 476 176, fax ++ 490 476 284; e-mail ork@bart.fr.
